My Trips to the Hospital

About Me

My Trips to the Hospital

Hi, I'm Cari. When I was a teenager, my best friend Claire's mom got cancer. I started offering to take Deb (the mom) to the hospital for her treatments to help give the family a break. They had all been in and out of the hospital so much, and since I'm basically family to them, it was nice to support Deb and Claire. Not to mention, I was able to learn a lot about different medical topics just be listening and watching while waiting in the hospital. It was fascinating. To everyone's joy, after a long and hard two years, Deb finally beat cancer! I decided to start this blog as a memorial to all those who have struggled with health problems and as a resource to for anyone who needs to know more about hospitals and treatments.

4 Problems You Can Fix With A Neck Lift

Modern society places a lot of emphasis on outward appearances. Women are especially vulnerable to society's beauty standards. As women age, their appearance can start to suffer.

Cosmetic surgeons have developed many procedures designed to eliminate visible signs of aging and restore a person's youthful appearance. One of these procedures is the neck lift.

The neck is an area that is commonly overlooked during beauty and healthcare maintenance. This oversight can cause the neck area to age much faster than the face, making a person look older than they really are.

A neck lift can be a great way to address some of the specific problems that appear in the neck area as the body begins to age.

1. Fat Deposits

Many women develop fat deposits around the neck area as they age. Commonly referred to as jowls, these fat deposits can significantly alter a woman's profile and add years to her appearance.

A neck lift can be a valuable tool when it comes to eliminating unsightly fat deposits. An experienced cosmetic surgeon will be able to utilize liposuction to remove excess fat from the neck area and sculpt a more youthful neckline.

The result is a more defined chin and a smoother neck that can contribute to a more youthful overall appearance.

2. Skin Laxity

Skin laxity is one of the most common reasons a woman may consider investing in a neck lift. As the body ages, collagen production decreases. Collagen plays a vital role in maintaining the elasticity and suppleness of the skin.

Reduced collagen production can cause the skin to lose its fullness and begin to sag. Many women refer to this phenomenon as turkey neck. Drooping, sagging skin can significantly increase the perceived age of an individual.

A neck lift can be used to help eliminate sagging skin and restore a smooth neckline. A cosmetic surgeon will manually tighten any skin that has started to sag during a neck lift. Excess skin will be trimmed off, leaving a younger-looking and more appealing neckline.

3. Muscle Laxity

While sagging and drooping skin can detract from the beauty of a woman's neckline, muscle laxity also plays a role in the visible aging of the neck.

Muscle tone is often reduced as a person ages. When the muscles on the sides of the neck become loose, they can start to droop. This drooping pulls the overlying skin downward, which gives an overall tired and old look to the neck area.

Muscle laxity is addressed during a neck lift procedure. An experienced cosmetic surgeon will utilize carefully placed sutures to support the neck muscles. These sutures will hold the muscle in place, preventing it from drooping in the future.

The restoration of the muscle position allows the entire neckline to appear more sculpted and refined.

4. Tissue Laxity

A thin layer of tissue exists between the neck muscles and the overlying skin. When a person is young, this tissue is soft and supple.

As the aging process begins, the tissue in the neck area can begin to wane. It shrinks and becomes less supple than it once was. This loss of suppleness contributes to the overall sagging appearance of an aging neckline.

While there isn't much a surgeon can do to prevent tissue laxity, a neck lift can help camouflage the effects of tissue laxity on the neckline. A cosmetic surgeon can tighten the neck during a neck lift.

Pulling the skin taut helps to eliminate any drooping that occurs when the underlying tissue no longer offers structural support for the skin itself.

Don't let neck problems negatively affect your appearance. Talk to a cosmetic surgeon to learn how a neck lift can help restore your youthful neckline.
