My Trips to the Hospital

About Me

My Trips to the Hospital

Hi, I'm Cari. When I was a teenager, my best friend Claire's mom got cancer. I started offering to take Deb (the mom) to the hospital for her treatments to help give the family a break. They had all been in and out of the hospital so much, and since I'm basically family to them, it was nice to support Deb and Claire. Not to mention, I was able to learn a lot about different medical topics just be listening and watching while waiting in the hospital. It was fascinating. To everyone's joy, after a long and hard two years, Deb finally beat cancer! I decided to start this blog as a memorial to all those who have struggled with health problems and as a resource to for anyone who needs to know more about hospitals and treatments.

Ways to Get Ready for Your Later Years: Aging Mindfully

When you are young, the last thing you may want to think about is the aging process and getting older. The youth obsession of today's cultural landscape can make it easy to forget that nobody stays young forever. If you are trying to make sure that you are prepared for your later years in life, no matter what age you are now, then there are many steps that you can take to do so. Get to know some of the ways that you can get ready for your later years so that you can age mindfully and with a sense of purpose and preparedness.

Save Up Money Using Spare-Change Investment Apps

One of the best ways to prepare yourself for your later years is to set money aside for your retirement or for general expenses that you will have as you get older. However, many people have trouble continually thinking about setting money aside for such purposes. If they think about it, they may try to justify using that money for other purposes and just investing later.

However, there is a way to avoid this problem. You could instead save up your money through the use of apps that are designed to invest and save your spare change. Essentially, if you use these apps, every time you make a purchase using a credit card that you link to the app, the change that it would take to round up to the nearest dollar are taken from a linked financial account and invested into a portfolio.

These micro-investments and micro-savings will eventually add up and can increase in value depending on the type of investments that you make. You can also add money to your portfolio intentionally as needed or desired or set an amount to invest weekly or monthly in addition to the spare-change investments.

Have a Care Plan in Place Long Before You Need It

Many people have misconceptions about their later years in life. They may either think that they will immediately need constant care and attention or that they will be completely independent forever. Neither of these ideas is accurate, and every person has a different experience in their later years in life.

In order to be prepared for the changes that can and will occur in your later years, it is important that you have a care plan in place well before you will actually need the assistance. This involves researching your options, talking to family members who you may need to rely on for care and assistance, and talking to various home-care providers as well as independent-living homes and assisted-living homes to find the right fit for you.

Think about whether you have children or other family members that you can rely on to provide you with care and assistance. Would you prefer to stay in your family home or move to an independent living home? What will you do when you need around-the-clock care? What are your plans if you have an accident or develop dementia?

Planning for all contingencies and possible scenarios will help you to ensure that no matter what happens in your later years, you have a plan already developed. This can give you peace of mind going forward and can also help to give your family and friends peace of mind as well.
