My Trips to the Hospital

Hi, I'm Cari. When I was a teenager, my best friend Claire's mom got cancer. I started offering to take Deb (the mom) to the hospital for her treatments to help give the family a break. They had all been in and out of the hospital so much, and since I'm basically family to them, it was nice to support Deb and Claire. Not to mention, I was able to learn a lot about different medical topics just be listening and watching while waiting in the hospital. It was fascinating. To everyone's joy, after a long and hard two years, Deb finally beat cancer! I decided to start this blog as a memorial to all those who have struggled with health problems and as a resource to for anyone who needs to know more about hospitals and treatments.

Some Things You Need To Know About A Chiropractor

Going to a chiropractor is a great way to relieve pain and increase your overall health. Many people have had serious benefits from seeing a chiropractor regularly. If you have never seen a chiropractor before you might be wondering what they do and what kinds of problems they treat. Here are some things you need to know.

How Is A Chiropractor Different From A Medical Doctor?

Although chiropractors hold a doctorate degree in their given field, they are not medical doctors and their treatment varies far differently from a medical doctor. Instead of using medication to treat common aliments, the chiropractor focuses on getting the body in balance so that the body can heal itself. The chiropractor has extensive training in anatomy and the science of the human body, but they will not give you medication. This is appealing to many people who want to avoid medication, antibiotics and other substances put into their bodies.

How Does A Chiropractor Balance The Body?

A chiropractor will do something called an adjustment or an alignment on the body, usually originating around the spine. The adjustment is somewhat like a massage where the chiropractor will take the joints and muscles and pop them back in to place. Although they don't rub the skin like a massage therapist would, they do make a lot of contact with the body to help adjust the spine, joints and muscles.

What Kinds Of Things Does A Chiropractor Treat?

A chiropractor can treat a variety of different things, however the most common reasons people see a chiropractor are usually for pain management, healing after an injury or pregnancy. For example, if you have been in a car accident you might have experienced whiplash. A doctor may give you pain medications while you heal, but pain meds can be dangerous and addictive. Alternatively, a chiropractor will help to adjust the neck and spine so that you no longer feel the pain. It is a better way to get to the root of the problem rather than just masking the problem.

As mentioned earlier many pregnant women find relief by seeing a chiropractor. The chiropractor can help the baby to position correctly for birth, can relieve pressure on the hips and back, and help the woman's body function properly as she carries the baby and prepares for child-birth.

These are some of the things you need to know about chiropractors. If you haven't seen a chiropractor you should consider meeting one for a consultation.  Click here for additional reading
